Can you beat me?

No, I am really not boasting. In fact, I am shocked I haven't cried yet today. Today I paid a $266 speeding ticket. It was not reckless driving--I was a mere 11 over. . .but tack on a "calming zone" and you have yourself a catastrophe. Has anyone out there, (besides my friend Jess!!!!) had a more expensive ticket??? Come on, make me feel better about this!!!!! ;)

I'm so sorry! I've never gotten a ticket, I have to say. But I have come close. I'm know that I would feel the same way! Only 11 miles over - that was BRUTAL! I'm sorry...

  2. dear sarah do you believe this they had on the news around Thanksgiving that Va. passed a law that they could charge any amount for speeding and some people on the interstate were being charged a $1000.I am so sorry they caught you. the only ticket I ever got was that parking ticket last summer in VA. they must really need money. gigi

  3. Dear Grandma--
I just got off the phone with my Dad and he said he thinks Virginia has always been "money thirsty" when it comes to tickets. He told me a story about Pop-pop getting a ticket for crossing the merge line on an interstate entrance!! Crazy! I am sorry that Virginia was not nice to you when you were here--concerning the parking ticket;) We definitely will not miss certain things about Va when we leave here--the ticket thing in particular! ;)

  4. Wow- that is not fun to have to pay that....can't say I've ever got a ticket...I have almost cried once and got a warning, and another warning the time I ran a red light.

Dave has gotten some steep tickets for not wearing a seatbelt, though.

  5. Nothing to share here. But that is a hefty fine--yikes! The "calming area" cracks me up!

  6. Well, Sarah, my worst experience here in NYC was the day I forgot to move our car for street cleaning. I ended up paying a $65.00 parking ticket, a $265.00 towing and impound fee, and they topped it off by letting me know that I owed approximately $600.00 in taxes that weren't properly paid when we moved into the state! Nothing like ending the day $1000.00 poorer than when you started!

That's one of the big reasons we don't have a car anymore. :-)

    Sorry about your ticket.

  11. What's a calming zone? I'm afraid I got at least 2 big tickets in Wisconsin, but I always went to court and got them reduced. Even if it's your fault they will reduce it if you explain your circumstances and you get a nice judge(I was a poor college kid!) I don't know if I'm allowed to disclose who, but a certain family member got a ticket this week for driving in the carpool lane at 3:05 p.m....$350. One hint, it wasn't Josh. :)

  12. Sarah.....that's awful - I'm cringing here at the computer on your behalf :( especially since I hate to think of all those drivers out there that are actually reckless - and yet you end up with the ticket - sorry.

  13. Hello! Long time no comment!
I just had to say, my husband has written much worse!
I personally had one higher once, but it got reduced at court. This was before my beloved was in uniform. So, no, he wasn't able to get me off the hook. haha! Thankfully since he has been in uniform (7 years) I haven't been pulled over! Knock on wood.

  15. So, are Ginny and I the only ones in the dark? What in the WORLD is a "calming zone?"

I can't beat you on that one. I got one speeding ticket but it was about 20 years ago and that fixed me for good.
