Poop

uh-hm. Yes. That is exactly what will be all over my back door in approximately 2 weeks. We currently have 3 little bird's nests that are residing at 6 Gillis. Two of them contain robin's eggs. . .and the other, tiny warbler eggs. All of them are welcome at our home. . .except the one on our back door is iffy. Iffy because of Stevie, not because of me. Last year, robins built their nest on our front door; after that experience, we moved the wreath to the back door. . .where they promptly built their nest again this year. I did not discover it until about a week ago. . .Steve had mentioned that we should probably take down the wreath so that they would not build again. . .because last year's poop saga about squelched his love for baby birds. Unfortunately, I procrastinated in taking down the wreath, not on purpose, and lo and behold. . .when Steve opened the back door one night last week to let Cal out, a robin flew into our laundry room! And so. . .not wanting to disturb the gift of life, we have kept the wreath on the door!

And so. . .each day since, my schedule has gone something like this:
wake-up.
go with Cali outside to make sure she does not eat mama bird.
go to work.
go with Cali outside to make sure she does not eat mama bird.
eat.
go with Cali outside to make sure she does not eat mama bird.
sleep.
go with Cali outside to make sure she does not eat mama bird.
repeat process.

Anyone have more than 3 nests at your residence? Hmm. . .how many days until these birdies hatch and fly the coop? ? ? ? ? ? ? EDIT 4/18 . . .MAKE THAT 4 NESTS! I just found another one in my other window box!!

  1. Never three! That's so exciting. When we were in Chesapeake we had a nest in our front yard. I loved looking down on it from the 2nd floor and occasionally seeing mama feeding the babies worms! It was amazing. I can't believe they would build a next on the door. I would keep that lucky wreath!

  2. I'm not sure -- but I'd like to let Cal go after the cat that keeps spraying my front door AND my patio door!

  7. Sakes the nest is beautiful! The color of those eggs makes me want to paint another piece that color!:) I love that God loves turquoise:) Also, you will have poop everywhere!! Remember the birds on my front door? I had the last home show here when they were on there and it was so embarrassing! But, you know....gotta love them:)

  8. Boy, there must be something in your water. Let's hope it doesn't affect YOU the same way (at least not all at the same time) ha.ha. :) Those eggs are just beautiful. Things like that always put me in awe of our wonderful Creator. Hope no more stow-aways enter into YOUR nest!!!

  9. My mom and I were talking about your FOURTH nest at dinner, and she was like, "Who is she...Snow White?!"

    It was funny.

So...we don't know why the birds love you, but isn't it a wonderful reminder of God's wonderful creation?
