Happy Father's Day! And. . . . . . . . .

Beware of Hallmark. . .or Starbucks. . .and definitely look out if you combine the two!

In light of this weekend's celebration of Father's Day, I thought I would forewarn you of all of those wonderful Father's Day cards at Hallmark. I had a few extra minutes the other day and decided to (for-once-in-my-life) purchase my Father's Day card early. Keep in mind that I also had just stopped by Starbucks for a delicious Java Chip Frappachino (a must-try if you haven't already done so). Amazingly, I had enough self-control to leave my frap. in the car as I shopped for the perfect card.

I quickly found myself lost in the multitude of "two many good cards". Boy do those Hallmark people have a knack for words;) And then before I knew it, I was crying. Crying at the thought of how much I love my Dad and which one do I pick?!!! And you know it is not a pretty cry--it's the nasty kind of crying--where your nose turns red and your eyes look sickly. I managed to pullllllllllllll! it! together! and get up to the register before I embarrassed myself to death. The lady took one look at me and I really don't know what she thought of me. . .because. . .

although I thought she was feeling compassion for my emotions, she was, and for very good reason, perplexed by more than just my tears. I quickly told her that "whew. . .I better get out of here! I'm falling apart!"

Upon arriving to the car and back to my best friend-in-the-drink-holder, I paused to throw on some lipstick. . and that's when I noticed it. There it was--neatly placed between almost every cotton pickin' tooth I own. . .chocolate.

It is probably a very good thing that I will most likely not step into that Hallmark until Steve's birthday. . .and that is 6 months away!

I am pretty excited for this Father's Day. . .because I have two very special visitors arriving at my house tomorrow. . .and one of them is my very-dear-to-my-heart-Dad.

So Happy Father's Day. . . and stay safe in those Hallmarks!

  4. oh that is just too funny :o)
    You make me laugh!
Hope you have a great time with your family ---makes me miss my dad too!

  5. Be forewarned, Sarah, I cry much more easily (about everything) now that I have children. Just something to think about as you ponder the future.

Such a "Sarah" moment. Actually, that would make a great Hallmark commercial!

  6. you know what's weird - I found myself crying in a Hallmark store this week too- the same kind of crying - the un-pretty, sniffly, snotty kind! What are the odds?!? :) Luckily Dave was there with me and was able to deal with the sales lady so that I didn't have to blubber all over her. And...no chocolate between my teeth...that I know of...

  7. Your blog almost always make me laugh! You have such a way with words. I feel like I was there with you! = ) Thanks as well for the little treat yesterday! I enjoyed it VERY much!

  8. That's hilarious! I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but it makes for a great story now :) I agree with Sue...that would be the best hallmark commercial :) How exciting that your parents are coming to visit, especially that you get to be with your Dad on Father's Day! See you guys next weekend!

  9. I am cracking up!!! That is a great story. . .so sorry it had to be at your expense, though. Have a great visit with your Mom and Dad! That is so nice it worked out that way!

  10. I would always wander into the Hallmark store for a 'pick me up' after a rough day and drown my sorrows in the Shoebox section - lots of out loud laughing!!! Thanks for sharing your experience!!

  11. oh, you crack me up!! i reeeeally cracked up at this one because WE LOVE THE JAVA CHIP FRAP and know all too well how chunky that thing is!!!! the LEAST the lady could have done was given you a clue!!! what if you were off to an interview or something???? ;)
