The Smartest Dog Ever

Dear Non-dog-lover-Reading Friends: BEAR WITH ME.
Cali has recently learned that whenever the song, "When Did you Fall in Love with Me", by Chris Rice, goes off on my phone at night, it means that Steve will walk in the door any moment. Steve usually calls me when he arrives home from work. . .and I noticed a few months ago that upon hearing the song, Cali would get up from wherever she was and go to the door.

Well. . .taking it a paw further {okay, Steve just about died that I actually just wrote that}. . .I had our i-pod playing in our new dock {which we LOVE!} and when the song came on, Cali, who was fast asleep on her bed, stuck her head up, looked around and headed for the front door! I thought it was so cute and amazingly smart of her!

Hmmmm....now if we could just work on the command "come". Seems so easy, doesn't it? ? ?

  1. That is so cute!!! She is a smart doggie! Do you think she will get along with a tiny little poodle as a sister-in-law?!?!?

  2. Sara--that is so funny! I can't wait to see that poodle puppy! Okay--I'm thinking Cali will be funny with a tiny dog--funny but okay. I just took advantage of Victoria Secret's 5 for $25 and they gave me this small free fabric "pink" puppy. When I got it home, Cali was so funny about it--she kept sniffing it, licking it's nose. . .took her a while to figure out that it wasn't real:) But she IS very smart:) ha!

  4. I'm one of those non-dog-lovers who hung in there and then realized I identified with you. Except for us it's our 14 month old daughter. Smart as can be about! Just this month whenever someone puts shoes on, she runs for her sandals and brings them to us babbling the whole time and pointing to the door. After her sandals are on, she runs to the door and bangs on it turning to look to see why we're aren't right behind her opening it. Like you, we think it is so adorable, but then we tell her not to stand on the couch after she's climbed up there and ... well, there seems to be a mental learning block in remembering that or like you said in obeying, "Come." :-)

I admit that even as a non dog lover, I enjoyed your story. :-)

  5. Cute! Godiva has figured it out as well. But her's is a time thing. She knows that in the evening, if the phone rings, it is most likely Don who is telling me he is on the way. So, she'll get up from her post and head for the door. Where she will wait by the door until Daddy comes home! =) So, don't be calling in the afternoon to early evening, or you'll throw off her groove! =)

  7. Love that story! We used to laugh so hard at Joey -- he would recognize the music at the end of Law & Order. Every time that music played he would jump off the couch and head towards bed ... aren't they so smart?
