Steve's Dad

Dear Reading Friends,

"Are You good only when I prosper and true only when I'm filled? Are You King only when I'm carefree, and God only when I'm well? You are good when I'm poor and needy--You are true when I'm parched and dry. You still reign in the deepest valley--You're still God in the darkest night!"

We received word that yesterday Steve's dad was taken to the emergency room, and after tests were run, was diagnosed with colon cancer. This afternoon, surgery was performed and the doctors were able to remove the tumor, but unfortunately were unable to reattach his colon because of the damage caused by the cancer.  They do believe that they will be able to reconnect the colon after a period of 5 or 6 weeks.  The cancer has also spread to the liver.

Steve's parents were visiting Steve's oldest brother in California when all of this came to a front.  As you can imagine, it has been hard on them to hear such a difficult prognosis--and while they were away from home.  Furthermore, the closest hospital could not perform the surgery and so Mr. Branine was taken by ambulance to a hospital located an hour and a half away from Steve's brother's house. . .making accommodations and quick runs home difficult for Steve's family.

We ask for your prayers for his dad as this has been very difficult for him.  Very painful, very abrupt, and very discouraging as he looks down the road towards recovery. I want to respect the privacy of Steve's dad and family. . .so I will not write many details but instead ask for you to pray that we will have understanding for God's Sovereign plan.

Steve and I are discussing options about flying to California as his dad must remain there for 5-6 weeks.  Please pray with us and we hope to update you as we can.

Very grateful,
Steve & Sarah Branine

  1. Oh Steve and Sarah, we are so sad and shocked to hear this news about Mr. Branine. We will pray for them and you guys too as you try to decide what is best in traveling. This being Steve's last semester probably makes this even more difficult for you, but remember the sovereignty of our all powerful God- may the Lord be glorified through your family through every part of this! Love you guys, Michael and Nina

  3. Steve and Sarah,
We will be praying for your entire family and that the peace of God will suround you as only He can. We will pray for the doctors and nurses that care for him that God will give them utmost wisdom. We will pray that the Lord will calm everyone's hearts and that He will receive the glory.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do, especially as we live very close to Mr. and Mrs. Branine's home here in Indy.

    Praying for you all!

  10. Steve and Sarah! We are praying and know that God is in Control! His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. We pray that Steve's dad will become more Christ like through this experience and that the rest of the family will be able to demonstrate Christ's love in a real and true way!! We love you guys and pray that the Lords will will be done. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do...even if it is from a distance.
