a perfect day for the zoo

Saturday was so beautiful, here in Oregon. We decided that we would head for the zoo. We wanted to wait until Graeme recognized a few animals before venturing off for our first zoo visit. And, since he has become quite the animal enthusiast, we thought it was high-time to visit the Oregon zoo.........

and let me tell you, the zoo has my number, wink wink!

I was very impressed with our zoo. I appreciated all of the extra little designs-- like this carved wall for example. And of course all of the animals! Want to guess our family favorites? Here they are. Let's see if you can match them correctly...........

I know, I know........
that was a pretty easy test!

Graeme wasn't the only one that loved seeing the elephants, or the "eps", as he calls them. I had never noticed the different colorings on an elephant before. Sadly, I have always just thought of them as grey! Seeing this elephant in person totally reminded me of Eric Carle's illustrations. I think his interpretations of color and texture is beyond perfection!

So, let's see. Graeme's animal vocabulary currently consists of bird, doggie, kitty, "menguin", turtle, fish, hippo, "ep", cow, "baaa", horse, rhino, bear, "roar" ( for lion ), owl, duck, "oink", and my personal favorite-- goat, which comes out as "goak". It makes me smile every time! He is quite the chatterbox and we are absolutely loving it! It was very fun to see him recognize the animals at the zoo!

And, it looks as though we will be making several trips back to the zoo now that we are officially zoo members! yay!

  2. Oh, how fun! I love "eps" and "goaks." That is precious! Don't you just want to follow him around the house with a video camera? I can't wait to hit the zoo this year!

Sue--I did follow him around the other day and when I watched the video later, I was so dizzy! ha!! I'm hoping our weather warms up soon so we can hit the zoo again;-) I've been meaning to tell you that we so enjoyed visiting with your parents and your brother and his wife. We TOTALLY barged in on them and they were so gracious. It was such a needed breath of fresh air. Miss you!
