Oversized pictures + Undersized Costs .

Do you ever find yourself reading a beautifully written book about homemaking or decorating only to lose heart when the seemingly down-to-earth author announces she is currently writing from her second home in Germany? I love to make our home home. And I enjoy making our home beautiful within a simple budget. If your budget is a second home in Germany, I am so happy for you. Because, chances are, you've worked very hard to be there! But, if you are like me, and feel very wealthy just carrying out sixteen packs of paper towels from Costco, then this post is dedicated to you. (smile)

Several months ago, I stumbled upon Jenn's blog, Ambrosia Creative, and was intrigued by this post. I loved the look of an oversized Instagram and loved the price tag even more! Needless to say, I've been so excited to give the oversized print idea a try. And, let me tell you, I'm hooked. I warned my local FedEx Kinkos that I will be back to print off many more 24 x 36 black and white pictures. Until then, you'll find me right here, in my home that I rent. This home that has made me completely thankful for and fall in love with white walls, honey-oak wood, and vaulted ceilings.

(Additional notes: I used an actual photograph instead of an Instagram file. I cropped my original picture to a square and then maxed out the rounded edge feature to obtain a circle. The picture was printed on copy paper, which is relatively flimsy. I applied a very thin layer of spray adhesive to the back of the picture and mounted it to white poster board before attaching it to my dining room wall with washi tape. The cost of the print was $4.50.)

  1. Oh my goodness, I saw that same post, and now that I see your print, I'm even more determined to try it. This is beautiful, Sarah, and PS one of the things I love most about your site is the approachability of your ideas!

  2. Great post! I love that picture on our wall.

  3. Thank you, babe. I have to admit, I was a little confused when I saw that "cranny + b" had left a comment and I knew it wasn't myself : )

Try it! You will love it! (I kind of felt like I was reciting Green Eggs and Ham right there!) : ) Thank you!

  4. Katie,
With all of the beautiful places you've been, I would imagine this idea would be amazing in your home!

  13. Amanda,
Thank you so much for your sweet words. I have to tell you-- those curtains are oldies but goodies : ) They are from Ikea, but about 7 years ago! My sister also owns two pairs. If either of us ever decide to part with them, I'll let you know! : )

  14. That would be amazing! I have searched for similar fabric with no luck, in hopes of making them myself. Gotta love ikea finds. ;)
