On being a part of an Instagram E-book Collective

Several months ago, I was asked to write a chapter for a book on, of all things, Instagramming! I have to admit, I really do love Instagram. Shocker, right? Even though I own a beautiful Nikon, that I use frequently, I appreciate how my iPhone can capture pretty pixels in its own right. I used to think that an iPhone camera was somehow inferior to that of my Nikon. (Just so we're clear, I do realize they're completely different calibers.) But over the last year, as I captured hundreds of photographs on both machines, I realized that that little iPhone camera of mine is rather capable and valuable. And so, when Katie asked if I'd consider being a part of her e-book, Instalove, I said a happy yes!

I said yes because I believe in the power and importance of photography. It's highly probable that I love photography because I truly believe it is a language. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? I snap a photograph of my boys, or of a pretty field, a row of buildings in San Francisco, or of a finished calligraphy and I don't just see a static photograph. It communicates so much more to me. I see and remember the beauty of those moments, the love I feel for my children, the thankfulness in my heart for our Creator, the happiness in simply being alive! All of those emotions and feelings and memories caught up in a handful of pixels. It blows my mind.

I hope that you all will take a look at the Instalove book, a book that is chock full of Instagram secrets, our tips and tricks! I was honored to have a part in this collective of creative souls. Here is a link to sweet Katie's blog for the free e-book. (You'll see the sign-up on the right hand side.) And here are a few links to some of the contributors from the book: Jodi Mockabee // Heather Walker // Justin Freeman // Robyn and yours truly!

Happy Mondaying!

  2. Bethany,

Thank you so much, friend. I was really thrilled to be a part of this book. And, even more so after seeing the finished product and getting to look up the other individuals. (It was so exciting for me to be able and post this and I'm so glad that you took the time to share what you did!) I love that there is always something new to learn about photography, whether it's via a Nikon or a phone camera. So glad you enjoyed the book. I'm looking forward to reading a few more chapters in their entirety soon!

  3. So I read your chapter and was so inspired! I don't think I ever used the T1 filter before, but now I'm all about it, haha. : ) Congratulations on being featured! So proud of you and, as ever, a big fan of your Insta feed.

    1. Thank you, sweet friend. I know. Aren't you sold on that T1? I discovered it a couple of months ago, right as we were getting ready to head down the coast. I am SO GLAD that I did! It's my favorite. Also, I found out the the VSCO guys and the Artifact Uprising peeps are friends. We should've known, right?

Thanks for being happy for me in this. I know it's a little nerdy, but I really enjoyed working on this project. You're a sweet friend.
