My bachelor's degree is in Interior Design. But, let me tell you, I am a horrible interior designer. I can't pick out paint colors to save my life and my home projects never, emphasis on the never, turn out how I imagine them. My husband, on the other hand, is a pretty good envisioner, which, in all honesty, makes me get a bit testy sometimes. (smile) When we bought our first house, I confidently picked out a paint color for the hallway and my husband told me, "I think you should go with the same color you painted the living room." (I can't remember the name of the color, but it was a warm, wait for it, tan.) Four confident colors later, we-- and I do mean we because my husband always ends up finishing my painting projects-- painted the hallway, you guessed it, tan. My husband will never let me live that one down. Nor should he, as it has saved him from many, many other painting quandaries!
I hope I've grown a little bit since that fateful hallway incident seven years ago. In fact, I think I've swung to the other end of the pendulum. For instance, we've lived in our new home for nearly six months and I can count on one hand, plus three fingers!, the items that are hanging on our walls. I can say with certainty, though, that I have fallen deeply in love with this side of the pendulum-- the side of being sure about what we want in our home and simplifying down to what we truly love. We love living in this home. And because its bones and surroundings are so incredibly beautiful, simplified decor seems to compliment it.
When we moved into this home, I was not prepared for wall-to-wall wood flooring. Suddenly I found myself rug shopping like a mad woman! And I'm happy to report that the last rug has been found! I was thrilled when Rugs Direct offered me a beautiful wool rug to feature in our guest room/office. And, wow, what a difference it has made! We unrolled the rug last weekend and the boys officially welcomed it into our home with armloads of matchbox cars that they zoomed and zinged across it for a solid thirty minutes. I love that it's 100% wool, lightweight, and reversible! But more than that, I love that it turned my favorite room in the house (the light!) into a favorite room for our whole family. (If my boys aren't playing with their cars on the rug, they're jumping on the bed when I'm not looking!) The rug covers up a large, triangular area of tile that made playing quite chilly on the tosies and furniture layout somewhat of a nightmare. I'm so thankful for this beautiful rug.
And, what's more, I'm so happy that you have the opportunity to win a $300 credit to Rugs Direct! You'll love working with this online rug company. For starters, look at this amazing cable-knit rug, or this classic black and white striped rug, and this beautiful kilim rug. Follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter that Rugs Direct has provided and cross your fingers to receive the winning email! (Contest will close next Sunday, November 10th, at midnight. Happy entering and please ignore the (still!) missing knobs on our dresser!)
